Xiaomi is already working on a 6G network and on satellites to connect high-speed internet to remote areas
2020 has made the 5G network fashionable, many countries in the world are already installing antennas to introduce this new technology to the users, although there is still a lot of work to be done to make the 5G as expanded as 4G. On the other hand, this network has also caused a lot of controversy because there are people who think it affects human health and this is associated with the spread of coronavirus, however, none of these things have been proven yet.
However, although the 5G network is at a very early stage of deployment and adoption, companies like Huawei and Xiaomi are already working on the 6G network, in fact, in the U.S. Donald Trump also asked Ericcson and other companies a few months ago to start working on 6G network to win the race against Chinese telecom operators. Lei Jun, CEO and founder of Xiaomi mentioned that the company is already working on the 6G network, as well as on satellites that transfer the internet to areas with insufficient or no coverage. In fact, this last idea has been worked on for several years by Facebook and Starlink (Elon Musk Inc.). Of course, Lei Jun did not reveal more details about what Xiaomi will do with these satellites, i.e. we do not know whether they will only work in China, or if their project will extend to other parts of the world.
Regarding the 6G, they didn't talk much either, but they mentioned that the company has invested a lot in the research and development of the 5G network, so they are already planning for the next generation of high-speed networks, although we don't know whether they will work together with Huawei and ZTE, or if Their researchers would have worked separately or with other companies. The fact that they are in the US and China already working on a 6G network does not mean that we will see it soon, as it is estimated that this network will be deployed until 2030, i.e. we still have 10 years to use the 5G network, the same that it can be fully deployed in the least developed countries by one year 2025, but by 2023 it is likely to spread to most countries in Europe, North America and many Asian countries.
